【摘要】:Thistestmethoddeterminespotentiallyeffectivemicrobicidesforuseincoolingwatersystemsusingcoolingwateranddeposits/biofilmobtainedfromthefield.Theadditionofdeposits/biofilmsaddressestheneedtoincludethemajorsourceofmicroorganismsincoolingwatersystems.Evenwiththisaddition,laboratoryresultsmaynotbetotallypredictiveofmicrobicidaleffectivenessinthefield.Thisisbecauseconditionsinthefieldaffectingmicrobicideeffectivenessaredifficulttomimicinthelaboratory.Theseincludeblowdownrate,additionofmakeupwater,waterhardness,hydrocarbonleaks,pH,sedimentloading,dissolvedsolids,microbesinslime,anddeposits(biofilms)onsurfaces.Anadditionalfactoristhedifficultyinenumeratingallmicrobesinthewaterduetothelackofadequaterecoverymedia.Guidelinesthataddressformationofandtestingforsurface-attachedmicrobes(biofilms)maybefoundinGuidesE1427,whileaguidelineforunconventionalmeasurementofmicrobesisfoundinGuideE1326.1.1Thistestmethodoutlinesaprocedureforevaluatingtheefficacyofmicrobicides(algicides,bactericides,andfungicides)thatwillbeusedforcontrollingmicrobialgrowthincoolingwatersystems.Themicrobicideswillbeevaluatedusingsimulatedorrealcoolingtowerwateragainst(1)microbesfromcoolingwater,(2)microbesinmicrobiologicaldeposits(biofilms)fromoperatingcoolingsystems,or(3)microorganismsknowntocontaminatecoolingwatersystems,oracombinationthereof.Thistestmethodshouldbeperformedbyindividualsfamiliarwithmicrobiologicaltechniques.1.2Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
